Chesapeake Bay

About Executive Order 13508

On May 12, 2009, President Barack Obama signed Executive Order 13508, titled Chesapeake Bay Protection and Restoration.  Executive Order 13508 established a Federal Leadership Committee, chaired by the Environmental Protection Agency, and included senior representatives from the departments of Agriculture, Commerce, Defense, Homeland Security, Interior and Transportation, and directed the Committee to “prepare and publish a strategy for coordinated implementation of existing programs and projects to guide efforts to protect and restore the Chesapeake Bay.”

  • Effective methods to address nonpoint source pollution entering the Bay.
  • Notice of an available final Guidance for Federal Land Management in the Chesapeake Bay Watershed that describes effective tools to reduce pollution.
  • Notice of a final strategy pursuant to the Executive Order 13,508 to restore the health of the bay.
  • Notice of an available draft for guidance for Federal Land Management in the Chesapeake Bay Watershed that describes practices to reduce pollution.
  • Notice of seven available final reports by federal agencies for the restoration of the Bay.
