The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has established that by 2025, the Chesapeake Bay watershed’s seven jurisdictions (New York, Pennsylvania, West Virginia, Virginia, Maryland, Delaware, and the District of Columbia) must have in place measures that meet EPA goals for pollution reduction in the Chesapeake Bay and its surrounding waters. In order to ensure compliance with these goals, EPA has established that beginning in 2012 (and every two years thereafter) each of the Chesapeake Bay watershed jurisdictions must provide EPA with short-term goals (called Milestones) that describe in detail efforts being made to institute the required pollution reduction measures.
